The iconic singer and last surviving member of the glam and protopunk band New York Dolls, David Johansen, passed away at the age of 75 in New York. According to Jeff Kilgour, a family spokesperson, Johansen died at his home where he had resided for a long time. His daughter Leah Hennessey also confirmed the news through social media.

In a message posted from the account that the family opened a few months ago to request help with medical expenses, it was mentioned that David Johansen died surrounded by his wife Mara Hennessey and his daughter Leah, in a moment filled with music and flowers. It was highlighted that the artist suffered from several illnesses, including stage four cancer, a brain tumor, and a spinal fracture, which had kept him in delicate health for some time.

David Roger Johansen was born in 1950 in a Catholic home in Staten Island, New York, and showed interest in music from a young age. He began his musical career in the local band Vagabond Missionaries and later joined the New York Dolls in 1971. The band, a pioneer of punk, inspired later musical movements and impacted the rock scene with its unique visual style.

After the dissolution of the New York Dolls, Johansen formed his own band and later reinvented himself as Buster Poindexter. In addition to his music career, he ventured into acting in films and television shows. It was his ability to connect with the public through his music that made him stand out and be remembered as a reference in the music industry.
